The Jungle Booby is a playful riff on the classic tiki cocktail, the Jungle Bird, which was originally created in the 1970s by Jeffrey Ong at the Aviary Bar of the Kuala Lumpur Hilton. Unlike its rum-based predecessor, the Jungle Booby replaces rum with agave spirits—specifically blanco tequila and mezcal—while retaining the bitter backbone of Campari and adding tropical complexity with orgeat, citrus juices, pineapple juice, and a touch of absinthe.
